Omaha Rollergirls place 3rd in 2012 Clover Cup Tournament
The Omaha Rollergirls All-Star team headed down to Dallas, TX this weekend to participate in the 2012 Clover Cup, a South Central region WFTDA invitational tournament hosted by the Dallas Derby Devils. This year the tournament was single-elimination (with a consolation bracket) and brought in eight teams: Green Country, Tampa, Gold Coast, Jacksonville, Dallas, Oklahoma Victory Dolls and Houston (as top seed). The order of seeding for the bracket was essentially unchanged from the results of September 2011’s WFTDA South Central playoff tournament.
Starting off the tournament bright and early Saturday morning, the ORG All-Stars took on the Gold Coast Derby Grrls (#9SC) in Bout 1 winning with a final score of Omaha 141, Gold Coast 111.
This win advanced the team on to Bout 7 (semi-finals) where the Omaha Rollergirls took on the Tampa Derby Darlins (#8SC) losing with a final score of Omaha 101, Tampa 166. This loss bumped the Omaha Rollergirls out of contention for the Championship Bout, but the All-Star team still had the opportunity to via for a top seed within the tournament.
The All-star team came back Sunday morning at 8:00am for Bout 9 taking on the Jacksonville Rollergirls (#11SC). The game had fans literally on the edge of their seats and resulted in a win with a final score of Omaha 119, Jacksonville Roller Girls 110. This win guaranteed a shot to place within the top four teams for the tournament placing ORG against the Oklahoma Victory Dolls (#17SC) vying for 3rd and 4th place.
In a nail biting game, to say the least, the Omaha Rollergirls beat the Oklahoma Victory Dolls with a final score of Omaha 130, OKVD 92 guaranteeing the All-Star team 3rd place in the Clover Cup Tournament.
