What is an official?

SKATING OFFICIALS enforce safety protocols, issue penalties for infractions, and count points earned for the score. Skating officials wear vertical black and white stripes like a referee.
NON-SKATING OFFICIALS (NSOs) update the scoreboard, track the penalties of skaters, run the penalty box, and time the game. NSOs wear all black with “OFFICIAL” on the back.
